The Acts of Hope for the Nation (AHON) Foundation, the corporate social responsibility arm of Filway Marketing, Inc., started the year right by opening two child-friendly and newly refurbished public elementary school libraries. Blessings poured early for the students of Sta. Rita Elementary School in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija and J. Zamora Elementary School in Pandacan, Manila. AHON gave these schools brand new Time Life Books and other reading materials that brought joy and hope for the community, teachers and especially, the children.

New library for Sta. Rita Elementary School

The first library opening this year was held in Sta. Rita Elementary School last January 8, 2015. The community and guests celebrated the inauguration simple but filled with gratefulness and excitement. It was attended by the Mayor of the town, Hon. Gloria “Baby” Congco together with the school alumni association, barangay officials and PTA members. The teachers and children of the school extended their gratitude to those who helped in the refurbishment of the library.

The principal of Sta. Rita Elementary School, Mrs. Remedios Zabala, said during her opening speech, “It is really a true blessing from our Almighty God that AHON came and gave these books.” She thanked the whole AHON Team and other benefactors for giving them an opportunity to have a functional library that can be utilized by the children anytime. The librarian of the school also said that, “We really started this year with a bang as AHON gave such valuable blessings.” She also added, “We are very lucky to have these books that will hopefully encourage more children to read and learn new things.”

For her part, Mayor Congco enjoined the teachers and the students to make sure that the books will be used properly. “The books and the new library will be useless if we do not take the time to read them. Through these books, we can hopefully develop more young students in Cabiao to become future leaders of our community and our country” shared Congco.

New Year, New Library for J. Zamora Elementary School

The next library was inaugurated last January 13, 2015 in J. Zamora Elementary School located in Zamora East, Pandacan, Manila. Its school library is said to be one of the most beautiful and child-friendly. It is spacious and the facilities inside were really convenient and comfortable for the children. The principal of J. Zamora Elementray School, Ms. Angelina Mojica said, ”Minadali at pinagtulungan po naming tapusin itong library para sa mga bata.” She told that community engagement was one of the components for the success of the library refurbishment. As she added, ”Sa mga taong nagtulung-tulong upang maayos at makumpleto itong library, maraming salamat po sainyo, you are truly a blessing to us.”

Through the help of AHON Foundation’s generous donors and partners, it aims to build and develop 20 more functional public elementary school libraries this year.
