MANILA, Philippines - An unknown number of registered voters with no biometrics registration are in danger of not being allowed to vote in next year's elections.
This, after the Senate passed on 3rd and final reading a bill making the biometrics registration of voters mandatory.
The House of Representatives approved its own version of the bill with similar provisions in May 2011.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Sixto Brillantes warned that those who failed to have their biometrics registered by the final day of registration last October 31 will be disenfranchised.
As of October 12, 8 million registered voters nationwide have no biometrics.
Biometrics refer to data like photos, signatures and thumbprints of voters, which the comelec will use to identify and weed out multiple registrants and flying voters. - report from ANC
