MANILA, Philippines - Bureau of Immigration Commissioner Ricardo David Jr. on Wednesday said he has sacked 36 immigration officers for bribery as part of the campaign to rid the bureau of corrupt personnel.

In an interview on ANC Prime Time, David said immigration employees must undergo values formation seminars to toughen them up against corruption.

"Maraming immigration officers din ang matitino," he said.

He also said President Aquino's criticisms on the bureau will serve as a challenge.

Aquino scolded the bureau's officials and employees during the celebration of the agency's 72nd anniversary in its headquarters in Manila.

The President expressed dismay over reports that high-profile fugitives Joel and Mario Reyes were allegedly able to fly out of the country despite a lookout bulletin issued by Justice Secretary Leila de Lima.

Aquino also expressed disappointment that 358 members of a foreign cybercrime and human trafficking syndicate were able to enter the country.

David said he is keen on reforms in the bureau.

"We need to invest on equipment, personnel to change the system in the Bureau of Immigration," he said.
