MANILA, Philippines - A heated exchange ensued between chief justice nominee and University of the East College of Law Dean Amado Valdez and Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) chair Justice Diosdado Peralta on Thursday.
During his interview, Valdez proposed mandatory legal aid service for judicial aspirants and the prioritization of cases involving drugs and heinous crimes.
But it was his proposal that judges should employ moral ground in issuing temporary restraining orders (TROs) that baited a debate with Peralta.
Valdez also proposed an ID system issued by courts to citizens in place of the practice of paying court fees.
Peralta also countered this, saying court fees are a law-given right to augment court employees' income. - ANC
