MANILA, Philippines -- This afternoon, a text message supposedly from the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) was received by reporters saying the Supreme Court (SC) issued a temporary restraining order (TRO) on the Corona impeachment trial.

ANC categorically denied it had sent out the "alert."

In a statement released over its social media accounts, ANC said it “categorically denies texting or posting an update that SC has issued a TRO on the impeachment court/trial.”

The text message, sent via cellular phone number 09205794273, reads:

“ANC Alerts: The SC en banc has issued a TRO against the Senate impeachment trial to prevent CJ Corona from appearing on the witness stand and incriminating himself. Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Miriam Santiago and Joker Arroyo move to declare a mistrial.”

ABS-CBN News editors have advised Filipinos to be wary of text messages about the impeachment trial of Chief Justice Renato Corona, especially supposed news updates that are not from official sources.

While ANC itself does not have a text message news service, ABS-CBN News does. Updates are sent to Globe, Sun and Smart subscribers who have availed of the service by texting NEWS(space)ON to 2366.
