MANILA -- Some of the country's most popular young actors once again converged at the Araneta Coliseum for the annual Star Magic All Star Game, sponsored by leading smartphone brand OPPO.
The Big Dome was jam-packed with audiences from different fan groups. Many of them wore their team's color -- red shirts and balloons for Team Red; and blue shirts and neon lights for Team Blue.
During the pre-game program, OPPO held an online contest where it gave away premium items. The winners were selected based on their witty social media posts that bear their "groufies" and the hashtag #OPPOAllStarGroufie.
An OPPO booth was also set up at the entrance, where participants could put their shooting skills to the test via an arcade basketball game. They also enjoyed taking selfies with the OPPO mascot, using the brand's best-selling smartphone OPPO F3.
The audience also loved the musical performances featuring "I Love OPM" champ Yohan Hwang and Jona, as well as a surprise dance number by "Pinoy Big Brother" alumni Maymay Entrata, Edward Barbers, Kisses Delavin, and Marco Gallo.
The competitive spirits of the fans were awakened when the bell rang, and the players were introduced. Thunderous applause and cheers filled the Araneta as the celebrity athletes stepped inside the court.
The game immediately heated up in the first quarter when MVP Gerald Anderson immediately scored for his team, which sustained this momentum until the fourth quarter, overcoming a late charge by the Red Team, led by its top scorer and OPPO brand ambassador Ronnie Alonte. The 20-year-old actor was also named to the mythical five for the second year in a row.
Despite Alonte's heroics, Team Red lost by three points, 90-93, and while this saddened some fans, as early as now the team promised to reclaim the trophy next year.
During the awarding ceremony, everyone proved to be a real sport as they exchanged friendly hugs and handshakes. After all, at the end of the day, everybody had a good time.
Team Blue's Gerald was awarded MVP. He was also a part of OPPO's "Selfie-ready Trio," together with Ronnie and Zanjoe Marudo.
