JBC decides to allow live coverage of AJ interviews
MANILA - The Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) will allow the live media broadcast of its public interviews with candidates for Supreme Court (SC) Associate Justice (AJ) which is set to begin tomorrow, Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters after Monday's JBC meeting, Justice Secretary Leila De Lima said that what caused the previous announcement that live coverage would not be allowed was the absence of any request from media entities.
"Wala kasi nag-signify ng interest from the media networks," she said.
In the interest of "transparency and openness," De Lima said the JBC will allow live coverage subject to the same guidelines used during the public interviews of Chief Justice candidates. Only a government station will be allowed to bring in cameras inside the venue, the rest will be asked to hook up.
She said the move is in response to the "heightened interest and awareness" of the public as to the qualifications of candidates to the highest court in the land.
