MANILA, Philippines - TESDA Director General Joel Villanueva seems to be among the last to know about his possible exclusion from the administration senatorial slate in the May 2013 midterm elections.

Asked about reports that he is being dropped from the Liberal Party slate, Villanueva said in a text message, "Still waiting for that meeting with PNoy supposedly yesterday but my wife just gave birth eh. Unscheduled. Praise God for my baby girl."

Villanueva is scheduled to meet with President Aquino Wednesday.

At any rate, the TESDA chief said he remains undaunted by his low survey numbers and the possibility that he will just be asked to stay in his current post.  Villanueva only placed 26th in the latest Pulse Asia survey held August 31 to September 7, 2012.

"Most important and most fulfilling job in the world. No idea about our meeting, dami rumors. Am just a good soldier. I know my worth and most especially my calling to serve so running or not am gonna be fine. I serve at the pleasure of the President," he said.

He added: "You know me very well boss kung saan din tayo makakatulong dun tayo, kahit wala position. If am not running it's not just because of survey results for sure. I am not afraid of my present status kahit 19 na yung [Social Weather Stations]. Layo pa election. I don't think voters are ready now. Di rin tayo kailanman nag deklara. Parang di na ba mamimili husto mga tao?"

The TESDA chief said only familiar names are topping current surveys.

"Weird because everyone's crying for change and yet pare pareho names na lumalabas. Personal opinion ko lang. boss. I am sure it's gonna change so if I am running I know I have a chance. But as I earlier stated, dun ako kung saan ako mas kailangan. I know my worth and my calling to serve. Doesn't matter if Senate, Cabinet or no position at all. "

On Monday, Budget Secretary Butch Abad told ABS-CBN that there maybe no basis for a revamp now.

"I am not aware of any Cabinet member o running for the Senate in the 2013 elections so that should preclude any Cabinet reshuffle. The only Cabinet change so far is due to the death of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo."
