'2013 polls a validation of PNoy gov't'
Sen. Koko Pimentel reveals former President Joseph Estrada and Vice-President Jejomar Binay have formed a new alliance for the 2013 elections.
The senator said Estrada's Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino (PMP) and Binay's Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) have signed a coalition agreement to form the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA)
Pimentel said the coalition has an overflowing list of possible senatorial candidates. He said the possible "senatoriables" include himself, Joey de Venecia, Jack Enrile, JV Ejercito, Chiz Escudero, Loren Legarda, Gregorio Honasan and Alan Peter Cayetano.
He admitted he is opposing the inclusion of Juan Miguel Zubiri in the ticket.
Political analyst Prospero de Vera said the election should be seen as a vaidation of the Aquino administration.
He said Binay also sought an alliance with Aquino's Liberal Party before talks broke down.
"There was already a 6-6 count for the Liberals and the PDP but some people obviously did not like it. It seemed the PDP had the stronger six (candidates) than the Liberal, or vice-versa. Negotiations did not go anywhere," he said.
He added: "This new coalition of the Binay camp is not because they are consolidating their forces against the President because they tried to put together a coalition with the Liberal first."
