MANILA, Philippines – ABS-CBN Chairman Eugenio "Gabby" Lopez III told hundreds of communication students from different schools at the Pinoy Media Congress that in this complicated, digital age, it is important "to go back to basics."
In his speech inspired by Robert Fulghum's "All I really Need to Know, I Learned in Kindergarten" and Hans Christian Andersen's "The Emperor's New Clothes," Lopez encouraged the students to remember the basic values of "the golden rule, love, basic sanitation, ecology, living.."
Lopez told his young audience about their role in nation building just like ABS-CBN lives by its motto, "In the Service of the Filipino."
Lopez said "service" defines everything the company does, "it's our guide, it is our north star."
ABS-CBN has partnered with the Philippine Association of Communication Educators Foundation (PACE) for the last 8 years in sponsoring the Pinoy Media Congress.
This year's theme is "Media: Beyond Information and Education." It will be held in ABS-CBN Studio 10 for the next 3 days.
Aside from ABS-CBN executives, speakers include other ABS-CBN management heads as well as educators from different schools.
PACE President Gwenetha Pusta said beyond the "culture of delight" that broadcast media offers, media helps "shape and form" the human person.
During the congress, ABS-CBN also launched the book, "EL3: In the Service of the Filipino Worldwide", a collection of speeches and stories about EL3. The book published by ABS-CBN Publishing is so far only available in ABS-CBN.
