MANILA – Senatorial candidate Bro. Eddie Villanueva revealed how he was convinced to run for senator in the 2013 elections as substitute for party-mate Israel Virgines.
Villanueva said there has long been a clamor from Bangon Pilipinas for him to run for office.
“Nagtayo sila ng BESMO, Bro. Eddie for Senator Movement. Nabalita pa na ‘yung anak ko ay pinapatakbo ni President PNoy, si Joel, so lalong nawalan ako ng interes. Anyway kako, ‘yung gagawin ni Joel sa Senado, ‘yung gagawin ko ay gagawin din nu’n,” he said.
But when his son, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Sec. Joel Villanueva, was removed from the Liberal Party slate, it prompted him to file his candidacy.
“Ayokong dumating ang panahon na sisihin ako sa kasaysayan na mayroong clamor for genuine change at mayroon naman ako magagawa, pero umatras ako,” he said.
Despite millions of followers from his Jesus is Lord movement, Villanueva has lost twice in the presidential race.
But Villanueva believes he has a bigger chance of winning a seat in the Senate in 2013.
